President Eisenhower wanted to connect people around the world and promote peace. As I
traveled visiting three continents I kept President Eisenhower's vision for peace in mind. Over
three summers I have gained a vision for my life, insight into the lives of others, understanding of
cultures unlike and like my own.
One of the most important insights I have gained did not come during a time of celebrating and
rejoicing. It came during the most difficult event I have ever faced.
Like President Eisenhower, my boyfriend Tyler Hill wanted to connect with people. He was a
peace ambassador. On our trip to Japan Tyler died. Some frustration remains in me over the
complete preventability of his passing but I rejoice because I know he is with the Lord.
John 8:31-32 says “…If you abide in My word, you are truly My disciples. And you will know the
Truth, and the Truth will set you free.” The truth about peace is that it is not the absence of war, it
is God's promise of freedom from strife and a feeling of tranquility that passes all understanding
in the middle of a battle. It's my turn to pass on this message.
